Summer School

The Oak Park Education Foundation is pleased to offer a
Distance Learning Summer School Program at Oak Park High School and Medea Creek Middle School.

Pre-registration will close on May 19th at midnight, and will reopen on the first day of summer school. More information on how to register on the first day of summer school will be posted at a later date.

Distance Learning Definition & Expectations

The Oak Park Education Foundation Distance Learning Summer Program 2020 will be taught using both synchronous (face-to-face) and asynchronous (posted-and-shared) learning strategies. The learning environment will utilize a set schedule of class meeting times each day through a virtual online platform.  During the daily meetings, the teacher will provide direct instruction and facilitate discussion. All students are expected to attend all live sessions and interact with the instructor and other students.  These live sessions will occur within traditional summer school hours (e.g. a high school Period 1 class would schedule their virtual meetings during the 8am-10:10am time block).  In addition to class meetings, the instructor will post assignments for students to complete outside of the live meeting times and submit the assignments electronically.  Students will be assessed based on class participation, completion of work, and demonstrated understanding of class content.  Middle school students will be graded Pass/No Pass, and high school students will earn letter grades according to the OPUSD grading policy.

Teacher & Student Daily Time Expectations*

Daily instruction/discussion (at least 30-60 min/day)

Daily office hours/support (at least 30 min/day)

Work completed outside of live meetings (at least 60-90 min/day)

  • May include (but not limited to) reading, watching videos, independent practice, research, and writing

*These times are approximate and may vary depending on the course and each student’s individual learning style.

The Oak Park Education Foundation Distance Learning Summer School Program is open to all high school and middle school students.
