Vex Robotics

In Vex Robotics, middle school students from Brooks and Julian work with technology experts to design, build and program robots. A multinational program, Vex enables students to explore the possibilities of science, technology, engineering and math in an entirely new way.
The after-school Vex Robotics teams are open to all District 97 middle schoolers and attract a diverse group of students. Student inventors control the design, performance and functionality of their robots, including the ability to program robots to perform tasks by remote control or autonomously. Our schools boast 15 teams, including all girls’ teams, who compete against each other by programming and controlling their robots to perform tasks. Teams also attend national and regional high school competitions as observers.
Started in 2005 in Oak Park, Vex Robotics:
- makes science, math, engineering and technology as cool for kids as sports
- creates an engineering trajectory for girls and other students not normally engaged with robotics
- engages tactile learners in critical thinking and problem-solving activities
