Global Village

       Dissecting sheep’s brains

Studying ocean currents and sharks with a marine scientist

                     Building and launching rockets

These are just some of the hands-on experiences District 97 students participate in each year through the award-winning Global Village program.

Global Village matches scientists from Chicago’s leading scientific corporations, museums, academic and scientific institutions in an educational partnership with classes of 3rd through 8th graders. In addition to classroom partnerships and field trips, Global Village sponsors the annual Young Scientists Conference.

Global Village:

  • engages children with real scientists
  • engenders discovery and critical thinking skills
  • inspires students to consider careers in science
Since 1990, approximately 13,000 children in 500 classrooms have participated in Global Village.

Our Global Village scientists represent the following institutions: Argonne National Labs, Fermilab, Rush Medical Center, Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Institute of Technology, Stroger Hospital, University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola Medical Center, Northwestern University, Shedd Aquarium, West Suburban Hospital, Dominican University, University of Chicago.
